First Reconciliation Baptized Catholic children in the 2nd grade or older who have not celebrated the sacrement of Reconciliation are require to prepare for and celebrate their First Reconciliation (Confession) prior to their participation in the First Communion program. This process begins with an interview with Father Braida. The purpose of the interview is to assess the readiness of the child. Prior to entry into the First Reconciliation preparation process, children are expected to know the Sign of the Cross, Lord's Prayer, Hail Mary and Glory Be; attend Mass weekly and use their rainbow covenant envelopes; have completed one year of faith formation classes and demonstrate a basic understanding of baptism, covenant, and Jesus. Once children are accepted into the program, they will attend sacramental preparation sessions with their families and weekly faith formation sessions with their peers. First Reconciliation is celebrated in a parish communal penance service during Advent (December).
